LANGUAGE IN TOTNES  is part of a group of language schools situated in various locations across the UK. The clients are, and wish to be leaders in their field, offering new and exciting ways to teach English to foreign students. We were commissioned to undertake the interior refurbishment of the new junior school building in Totnes. The project needed completing quickly, and to a tight budget and so creativity was essential.

The school is used for teaching during the summer months, but then must be quickly convertible to hostel accommodation during the remaining months of the year. This meant that the design had to be flexible, as well as fun, and provide all the required facilities.

The school group has in place colours and logos that make it immediately recognisable. We made the decision to use colour as our main theme, and so each room was decorated in themed colours to make identity and way finding simple. We worked closely with www.milkand2.co.uk to introduce strong graphics for door numbering, signage, wayfinding and feature walling. The result is a fun and practical interior that fulfills the brief and works for the school.

The entrance and reception was particularly important, to make a strong first impression for anyone entering the building. Exciting graphics are used against a strong coloured wall, welcoming students in as many languages as possible. A bespoke reception desk and feature lighting completes the picture. The office, on view from reception, has high quality modern furniture to offer the best impression.

Shower Rooms and WCs have also been given attention to detail. It was essential that students and visiting staff could see that facilities were the best available, and so fittings, fixtures and tiling were installed to achieve this.

The project was completed on time and to budget, and has successfully launched the junior facility for the group of language schools.
